Well things are certainly heating up in Kitami. I thought I would be
lucky escaping the AZ heat and heading to the cold of Hokkaido, and
what happens? The last week was the hottest I feel like ive ever been.
It was up around 34/35 degrees (Celsius, I dont know Fehrenheit or
anything other than metric anymore) and pretty humid. It doesnt help
that we have to wear collared shirts and dark slacks all day. I
certainly miss shorts and flip flops. My arms and face are getting
tan, and my legs are getting white.
Elder Ishiga and I are doing just swell together. The language barrier
can be difficult at times, but we end up getting things figured out.
The only annoying thing is when we are contacting people, the people
we talk to will only talk to Elder Ishiga. Even though my Japanese is
fine, they will just stare at him as I talk and go "Who is this white
guy? Does he understand Japanese?" Hello, Im right here talking to you
just fine! Frustrating.
We are on track to have our baptism next week, we are currently
working out all the details. We had a church talent show the other
day, and our ward gospel reggae band played a sweet set. I am trying
to get a CD from the main guy right now, I think he enjoys messing
with me by telling me he will get me a copy "Eventually...". Thats
about it, everything is moving along.

Hey everyone!
Well, today is the start of my 3rd transfer. I will be lucky enough to
remain in Kitami for the next 6 weeks with a new Japanese companion!
His name is Keishi Ishiga, he is a way legit guy who was baptized
about 2.5 years ago, and he speaks no english! The language barrier
has proven challenging, there is alot of Charades and all, but we both
are having tons of fun and Im learning way too much Japanese at once!
So things are looking great, especially since we will be having a
baptism! Our main investigator, a 25 yr old guy named Yamashita, had
his interview yesterday and passed just fine. We will have his service
in 2 weeks, 8/5, and it looks like I will be baptizing him! So that
should be awesome and Im way nervous but excited too. We continue to
be blessed with miracles every day. Elder Peterson and I said our
goodbyes, he was definately bummed. The celebratory pizza was
delicious (half seafood miz and half BBQ pork) but way overpriced (at
$37.50), but was a fun experience. I hope everone is well. Know that
Im Kickin in Kitami!

Another crazy week in Kitami! More 5 hr bus rides and being on splits.
Its been really warm lately, with the occassional downpour, we are
never sure if we will be in shortsleeves and sweaty or rain jackets
and soaked. We get the phone call tomorrow letting us know if we stay
here of if one of us gets transfered to a different city, so we are
anxiously waiting to find out. Today to celebrate the end of my
training we are ordering a Pizza Hut pizza that we have been saving up
for since it is about $35, for some reason pizza is expensive in Japan
but we wanted to give it a try. We just taught our last lesson to our
strongest investigator, Yamashita san, and now we just need to set up
his interview, so Im really hoping I get to stay in Kitami to see him
baptized. Its not fair if I do all the work teaching him everything
only to get transfered and have some other Elder get the glory! Well
really as long as he is baptized, thats what counts, but Id like to be
there for it. Thats about all for now, thanks and love!

I am slowly forgetting who my real companion is and where my real area
is, since I am always busy taking buses everywhere so that Elder
Peterson can accomplish his Zone Leader responsibilities. Its always
nice to be back on my own futon on the floor. Good times in Kitami!
Last week was all traveling, had a great Zone Conference, it was good
to see the Mission President and his wife. She is very musically
inclined, asked me if I was a bass or a tenor. I told her the bass is
a guitar. She thought I was kidding, and I said "I dont know what
those mean, and I dont sing, but Im a great hummer!" She didnt find it
too funny. I miss people that get my humor... Anyways, its been pretty
hot lately, up in the 90s I think (Ive forgotten anything but metric),
and very humid. Suddenly this hills seem much steeper. Thats about all
for now.

Hey Everyone!
Sorry about missing some weeks, I am kept very busy here as my companion is a Zone Leader, basically he is over a lot of missionaries so we travel alot to check up on everyone. This week we will have a zone conference, a bunch of missionaries get together, do some fun activities and then have workshops and all, just trying to always improve. Last week Elder Peterson and I went to a yakuniku (literally "cook meat") restaurant, where your tsble has a built in grill, and it was all you can eat, so we ate...all...we...could...eat. I had some grilled chicken, lamb, squid, cow liver and intestine, and chicken hearts. All very tasty stuff. Who knew there were so many edible parts of animals? Not much has happened lately, Kitami has been way hot lately up in the 30-32 degree Celsius range (only know metrics now, sorry) with high humidity. Lots of Sweat! Anyways, I am happy, the work is challenging, and the time flies. Hope you all are doing well.
